I'm looking to buy a black Cosina-Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f/1.9 - should be fine mechanically and optically. Cosmetics don't matter. Let me know if you have one or know where I can find one. Thanks.
Well mate, that is called a company. We're living in a capilastic system and as long as only a few members (i.e. customers) speak up - who gives a damn? If just some thousand (and not even that) out of over a million customers complain - jesus, why should we change anything? That's the problem with deviantart... it's a company and as long as they have a positive turnover they're fine - regardless of what we think. Another issue would be that there is obviously no option of getting a helpdesk-case. Anyway, you have your points and my support, so has everyone else who has moaned about that ban. DeviantArt simply is less about art, the people who produce real art are the people who critize the system - and get banned. I am actually thinking about leaving deviantArt, or at least not use it to the extend I used to do it. Maybe the occasional browse or so...

I was going to document the TBC-hospitals in Romania for a humanitary aid organisation. They went broke in the meanwhile so I'm trying to find some other contacts, or perhaps another charity organisation to sponsor me, but I still want to do it at any rate. TBC-hospitals and maybe handicapped hospitals as well. Conditions over there are horrible, it's unbelievable...
As for Palestine I was going to the West Bank refugee camps (Dheisheh and Aida) for a project about children's life in those camps, probably at the end of august, but since the IDF invaded the Gaza Strip again yesterday I'm probably going to change plans and leave earlier, to Gaza instead of the West Bank. No set date yet. Want to go as quickly as possible but haven't planned it yet and I gotta work for a week or two to fund the trip I'm afraid.
Well yes, of course DA is a company - but that only explains the issue to a certain extent. If people complain about the number of advertisements etc, then yes, the explanation is simple: DeviantArt IS a company. But some more gallery directors and better adminning wouldn't hurt DA at all. And while DA is a company, it's admins are mostly people like you and me who enjoy art and like to talk about it, and chose DA as a medium to connect to others. So I'm not really looking for help coming from the helpdesk or the DA directors who will indeed think of DA as a company, but the gallery admins and the members are the motivated ones who can change things for the good.
I hope you stay around, or at least start a blog or post at another community site so I can follow your work!
the age old question. why does nudity get two categories as a genre? why does still life not claim any categories? or landscape? i know that +cweeks, though he is staff and not a gallery director, is a photographer, who does feature lots of photojournalism. +suzi9mm will take a chance on the arty and esoteric. ^garrit does feature landscapes a lot, though maybe they are not the kind of landscapes that much interest me. gallery director is a volunteer position: ask to be one for photojournalism. i'm sure you could make the case!
The admin aren't the only people who moderate the submissions, AFAIK, and I think you are overdoing it a little. Nude and fetish are popular here in both submission and viewing - it clearly needs an admin, a face for the community to see. Miscellaneous needs moderation, sure, but does it need an admin of it's own? Probably not.
For me, the problem is that deviantART don't show us the full team, and that generates opinions like this. I can see why you feel this way, but ultimately there are a lot more people running the photography show than just ^superkev et al.

I beg to differ. Who else is out there and what do they do? Because the galleries are still full of wrongly sorted pictures, features are still one-sided, when I report deviations nothing ever happens... So what do these 'other' mysterious people actually do?

But then who's going to do it? 3 admins resort in the nude/fetish community, garrit looks after the the nature galleries... Do we exspect hesitation to do all other galleries?
I appreciate your opinion but I'll respectfully disagree with the points you make.
thanks for the input! I just feel the gallery directors are too one-sided. I know they are volunteer positions, but I would think they do make the picks more evenly... As for applying myself, don't think that would work, I already pissed off some gallery directors by raising this issue... they said they could never please the "people who did nothing but whine". Try discussing something serious with someone who immediately resorts to insulting you for no obvious reason (I do nothing but whine? huh? this is the first time I ever complained about DA in public, and it's constructive criticism at that).
Oh by the way; I promised to send you a print a while back - I haven't forgotten, but i've run into some trouble: a broken enlarger, lost the neg for a while, found it and lost it again, another broken enlarger (I'm a cheapskate, should have gotten a good one right away!), ... and now i'm very busy planning stuff and doing photo assignments, but I'm just letting you know that I have not forgotten and sooner or later you will get that print!
