I'm looking to buy a black Cosina-Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f/1.9 - should be fine mechanically and optically. Cosmetics don't matter. Let me know if you have one or know where I can find one. Thanks.
congrats! what kind of book, and do you know the subject of the articles? definitely looking forward to 'm!
and yeah, eastern europe in fall/winter (?) actually sounds very good, i'd be up for that... i know quite a few photogs in that area i'd like to meet as well.
It is a book full of philosophical texts but it's all in very early stages so it might just change.
The articles unfortunately don't give me a lot of room for good stuff, it's about the English perception of the worldcup. It's straightforward journalism with straightforward photos. If you want to check them out: [link] ; [link] ; [link]
but after all it's money!
I'd much rather aim for spring... in fall I will have people coming round and in winter... I think my family would like to see my during christmas. Since I have to get my final degree there won't be too much room for sailing of etc. but I'll get in touch with you about that again! Some day we'll manage!

money's money, and i like the image in the third article! may i ask how much it earned you, or is that impolite? and how big is the paper? it's just that i'd like to get an idea what other photogs/journos are charging so i can see if my prices are right.. and yeah, spring's great!
Yep, it's money and yes, the image in the first article has been taken with a 2 (in words: TWO) seconds selftimer (Whoever came up with that idea should be shot!) so it was good effort + it has been cropped badly. The bench has been completely beforehand. In the second article... Again the main photo is straightforward journalistic and the other one has been badly cropped. Third article.. Main photo is good, the other one has been cropped (again!!!). Anyway, you may ask since it's you. I got the rock-bottom payment. It's 12.50€ per photo published and 30 cents per line. However, it adds up, especially the lines. So yeah... it's not a lot of money really but it is a start and once I am back in Germany I can keep on working for them. The paper is for a city of 48.000 citiziens, I reckon they publish about 20-30.000 papers a day since the paper are also delievered to the surrounding villages and towns.
If your prices are below that they are certainly NOT right! I earn a lot more doing other assignments but if you think about it - I get to sit in a bar and drink free beer since I know the barkeeper, interview some people and take a photo, spend another half an hour at home to write the article and earn money with it

now that's not a lot of money! but as you say it's a start if this means more future work for them.
unfortunately i earn next to nothing with photography for now, everything for the university mag is for free... we're just a couple students running it, for fun and well, for our readers I guess (publishing about 3500 per month right now, more is hard as the university is not that big). should you want to see the latest, you can find it in PDF here: [link]
i'm going to read your articles one of these days, a bit too busy at the moment. cheers!
It truly is no money at all but at least the lines add up to some money!
Your photos are really good in the magazine, I looked at it and really enjoyed them all - the last one is great! 3500 is a good pitch for a uni, when I worked for such a paper (school's paper though) we had, at our best time, a pitch of 450 for 1200 students. Anyway, it's pretty obvious that you enjoy your work there and that you can work manually. Contrary to me - it has to be digital and that kinda goes along with a worse quality with me. My manual portraits are so much better than the ones I can do digitally.. and I don't like the canon EOS-series either! The viewfinder is TINY and the manual setting of time and shutter is just.. well I won't swear on dA really. So one day I'll produce better stuff... have I linked you to the portraits I did?
Enjoy the articles!
Cheers !

heh, i refuse to do digital... university (who supplies us with a small budget) now pays my film expenses, thus they keep urging me to go digital.. but i know that if i do that, they won't pay anything anymore (while i'll need to buy a new computer, memory cards, and all that, apart from the digital camera) so i'm much better off now, it's much cheaper for me... and well, for obvious other reasons: i just love film!
no i don't think i've seen the portraits you mention - got a link? thanks!
(still haven't read the articles... one of these days.. in the middle of exams + completing some photography work for friends right now)
